Expert Witness & Litigation

We are able to provide an expert witness (and dispute resolution) service ranging from a one-off report to court submissions and appearances. We are willing to be appointed by private individuals, legal representatives, companies, government organisations and to undertake instructions as 'Single Joint Expert' under the new Civil Procedure Rules.The following are examples of cases where we have acted in litigation:

Insurance & Damage Assessments


We currently undertake claims assessments and loss adjusting for a number of prominent marine insurance providers, including Craftinsure, GJW Direct, Haven, Navigators & General, Royal & SunAlliance, St Margarets, and Towergate. Such work ranges from the investigation of personal watercraft theft, to the loss of seagoing craft through fire or collision.
(We also undertake incident and accident investigations for insurance companies, navigation authorities and various government agencies.)

We also act for boat owners (the assured party) where they encounter difficulties in progressing claims or where further opinion is required.


Newbuild and Repair Overview

We are able to provide a range of services for new build and repair overview, from complete project management to giving technical and 'standards' based advice. Services are taylored to individual client's requirements, but can include all or some of the following:

Inland Navigation Authorities

David A. Fuller is the Boat Safety Scheme’s Lead Quality Control Assessor and is responsible to the BSS Manager for certain proactive and reactive quality control measures. Given this role we do not issue Boat Safety Scheme Certificates for clients other than the BSS Office.

We are also commissioned from time to time by the inland navigation authorities to undertake special project work. Such projects have included the assessment of a large proportion of British Waterway’s work boat fleet, and a desk-top study into the manufacture, installation and use of solid fuel stoves in boats (published executive summary (pdf)).
